Below, you will find presentations from our academic departments and counseling team. These presentations are designed to help prospective families learn more about course pathways, graduation requirements, college preparation, and what to expect as a DeBakey student.

We encourage families to review these presentations to gain information that will be helpful as you move through the application process, prepare your family, and understand our school’s requirements and expectations. 8th Grade Magnet Open House Showcase – Explore Life at DeBakey!

Discover what makes DeBakey High School for Health Professions such a unique and inspiring place to learn! Our 8th Grade Magnet Open House Showcase is an interactive, self-guided evening event where families can explore the campus, meet students and teachers, and get a firsthand look at the programs that prepare students for college and careers in medicine, science, and health professions.

The evening is divided into short, rotating sessions, giving families the flexibility to choose which areas they want to explore. This is your chance to experience the classrooms, labs, and student life that make DeBakey so special.

Departments and areas you can explore include:

• Mathematics – see how students tackle real-world problem-solving

• English – explore reading, writing, and communication skills that prepare students for college success

• Science – tour our Biology, Chemistry, IPC, and Physics labs and see hands-on learning in action

• Social Studies – discover how students connect history and current events to the world around them

• Health Science – learn about our specialized courses that prepare students for health and medical careers

• Languages Other Than English (LOTE) – experience our Spanish language program

• Fine Arts & Physical Education – see students showcase creativity and wellness in action

• Clubs & Student Organizations – meet students leading clubs, service projects, and activities on campus

• Counseling & Registrar – get information about academic planning, schedules, and support services

• Magnet Office – learn about the application process and what it takes to join DeBakey

• PTO  – meet parent leaders and see how parents can get involved in their child's educational journey

Families will receive a program guide upon arrival with the schedule and department locations, helping them plan their evening and make the most of their visit.

What to Expect and Parking Information

During the Open House Showcase, families will have the opportunity to:

• Meet DeBakey teachers, administrators, and students

• Learn about our rigorous health science curriculum and academic expectations

• Explore classrooms, labs, and learning spaces

• Experience interactive classroom activities and demonstrations

• Hear from current students about their experiences at DeBakey

Session Start Time: 6:00pm-8:00pm
Location: DeBakey HSHP – 2545 Pressler St., Houston, TX 77030

Parking: Visitor parking is available in the front parking lot on Pressler Street, between Main St. and Holcombe Blvd. You may need to press the button on the intercom box once you pull up to the black gate if the gate is not already open. 

Who Should Attend

• Current middle school students interested in health, science, or medical careers

• Families considering DeBakey as a potential high school option

Important Notes

• No prior registration is required.

• Campus tours during the school day are limited and fill quickly; this event provides an excellent opportunity to experience DeBakey if you were unable to secure a tour.
