Tour vs. Open House: What’s the Difference?

Magnet Tours are guided and highly structured: you get to hear from students, take a tour of the school, delve deeper into the application process.

Open House Showcase allows families to explore the school at their own pace, get a first-hand experience of campus life, and focus on areas of interest.

Both events are designed to help families gain a deeper understanding of DeBakey and make an informed decision before submitting an application.

🎓 HISD Magnet School Choice Fairs

HISD Magnet School Choice Fairs provide families with the opportunity to explore all HISD high school magnet programs in one location. These fairs allow students and parents to meet school representatives, ask questions, and compare the unique academic pathways, programs, and opportunities offered at each magnet campus.

At the fair, families can:

• Speak directly with administrators, teachers, and students

• Learn about specialized programs, admissions requirements, and campus culture

• Gather materials and resources to support the magnet application process

• Explore multiple magnet options and make informed decisions about future school choices

School Choice Fairs are designed to help families “shop for their future school” and find the campus that best fits their student’s academic interests and goals.
