Before, During, and After School Tutorials

Academic Support & Tutorials at DeBakey HSHP

At DeBakey High School for Health Professions, we are committed to ensuring that every student succeeds in our academically rigorous environment. We recognize that our students are challenged daily with a college-preparatory curriculum, and we are here to support them every step of the way.

To help students thrive, our teachers offer regular before/after school tutorials based on their availability. These sessions provide an opportunity for students to review challenging concepts, get one-on-one assistance, and build confidence in their academic skills.

Students are strongly encouraged to speak directly with their teachers to learn more about each teacher’s weekly after school tutorial schedule and determine the best times to attend.

Academic Monitoring & Mandatory Tutorials

Throughout the school year, our faculty and staff closely monitor each student’s academic performance. We use progress reports, report cards, and other performance data to identify students who may need additional support.

Students who are not meeting academic expectations may be placed in mandatory morning tutorials, a daily, structured support session during school time focused on the subject(s) where they need improvement. These tutorials are designed to provide targeted help, close learning gaps, and keep students on track for academic success.

In addition to required placement, students can also take initiative in their own learning.
If a student would like extra help in a specific subject, they may request to be placed in a tutorial by speaking with the Dean of Instruction.

With a collaborative approach between teachers, students, and families, we ensure that every DeBakey student has access to the academic resources they need to reach their full potential.
